• Spiral Wetland is an outdoor public artwork created by Eco-artist Stacy Levy. Spiral Wetland is a series of floating raft-like structures planted with native wetland species and will be installed on Lake Fayetteville near the dam. Opening May 12, the artwork will begin on April 22 and be on display through the end of the year and is designed to highlight the importance of water treatment to maintain a healthy environment. Levy will present a lecture on her work at Crystal Bridges on April 28.

Opera in the Ozarks celebrates its 63rd season. This year’s repertoire includes Madama Butterfly by Puccini, Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (Elixir of Love) and Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. The four-week season begins June 21 and runs through July 19. The outdoor venue of Inspiration Point (located on Hwy. 62, 5 miles west of Eureka Springs) lends itself to an intimate look at each of these acclaimed operas – an opportunity seldom experienced. The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Arkansas Community College, and the Northwest Arkansas Entrepreneurship Alliance invite you to attend the second annual Entrepreneur Boot Camp for rising 9th-12th grade students in Washington County.

Students from Fayetteville, Elkins, Prairie Grove, Lincoln, Farmington, West Fork, and Greenland school districts will participate and compete in a five day workshop that will introduce and encourage the entrepreneurship experience. Students will participate in curriculum activities to learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur, as well as gain hands-on experience in planning a venture. Visits to the Arkansas Research & Technology Park, the Iceberg CoWorking Space, and Northwest Arkansas Community College will demonstrate how entrepreneurs think and work. The Entrepreneur Boot Camp will end with a competition on the final day. There will be a grand prize cash award for seed money to put their plan to fruition, plus support from local professionals and consultants. First and second runner up will also receive a cash prize.

The Artosphere Festival Orchestra, made up of 80 of the world's best musicians under the direction of conductor Corrado Rovaris, returns for the Walton Art Center’s 4th Annual Artosphere, Arkansas’ Arts and Nature Festival. They'll perform three concerts of orchestral works featuring Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky, and members of the Artosphere Festival Orchestra will also participate in the Artosphere Chamber Music Series, as well as pop-up concerts and outdoor events. On Friday, June 28, the Artosphere Festival Orchestra performs “Russian Masterpieces” at the Walton Arts Center with iconic works from Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, and featuring Andrew Tyson on piano. Mark your calendars now to be part of the exhilarating finale concert, a celebration of Artosphere and of the Northwest Arkansas community. Beginning Backpacking Workshop to be Held at Hobbs State Park If you never knew how to get started having fun backpacking, an upcoming workshop at Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area may be just the thing for you. The 3-hour workshop will be taught by seasoned backpacker Scott Branyan. Scott has backpacked on all of the Ozark Highland Trail, has made several solo backpacks in the Ozark National Forest, and completed numerous treks on the Lower Buffalo Wilderness Area. The workshop is geared primarily towards adults/families. This is a “how to” introduction with gear show-and-tell, slides, and recommended resources. Topics covered will include: equipment basics, how to get in shape, what to expect on a backpack trip, maps and planning tools, preparing backpack food, dealing with emergencies, wildlife encounters, and how to keep a clean camp. Participants need not bring anything but a note pad and pen. Date: Sunday June 30, 2013 Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Cost: $35.00 + tax per person The workshop is limited to15 participants.
