"We were thrilled to have Chung volunteer at OLC. She was already familiar with the work we do as she serves on our board of directors, but we were delighted she could use her knowledge and expertise through her time spent as a job coach working one-on-one with our students. Her extensive experience working and living around the world made it easy for many of our students (especially those who come from other countries) to connect with her." Said Margot Lemaster, Executive Director, at OLC.
Ozark Literacy Council (OLC) is a nonprofit organization that provides free, one-on-one tutoring and classroom instruction in Adult Basic Literacy (ABL) and English as a Second Language (ESL) that include curriculum in language, civic, financial, health, and workforce literacy. OLC helps roughly 350 adults in Washington County each year reach their goals such as getting a better job, achieving financial security for their family, helping their children with their homework, increasing community involvement, and obtaining U.S. citizenship. OLC’s tutors are trained volunteers who offer their time to give students a chance to learn and improve reading, spelling, grammar, writing, pronunciation, and conversational English skills.
OLC is supported wholly by volunteers, state funding, grants, and fund raising events. It currently has a fund raising program called The Little Free Library. There are still a handful of Little Free Library book kiosks available for sponsorship. These weather proof, architecturally designed structures provide free book exchanges for neighborhoods. For more information and to sponsor a kiosk, please contact Jim Mitchell at 479-521-8250 or jim@ozarkliteracy.org.
