Fayetteville Teen Leadership Experience

Developing Tomorrow's Leaders Today

The purpose of the Teen Leadership Experience (TLX) is to expose students to the many services, resources, organizations and businesses that make Fayetteville and the Northwest Arkansas area unique. Each month the group will attend presentations, tour facilities and interact with representatives from businesses, non-profit organizations, educational institutions and public offices.

While we strive to provide an engaging experience by including as many hands-on, experiential activities as possible, this is not always an option. To get the most out of the program, students should be prepared to listen, ask questions and learn about the ways that they may become involved in their community both now and in the future.

Curriculum

From September through April, participants step out of the classroom and into the community during the school day. Each month includes presentations, behind-the-scenes tours, and direct conversations with leaders across a wide range of industries and service areas. These experiences help students see how their interests, talents, and values can translate into meaningful involvement—both now and in the future.

  • Attendance & Participation

*PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SESSIONS TAKE PLACE BETWEEN 8:15AM AND 3:00PM.

Attendance for the full class day each month is key to gaining the full experience of the TLX program. Therefore, we ask that you make arrangements with coaches, employers, etc. to adjust their attendance for commitments that overlap with this schedule (e.g. changing practice or work schedules for TLX days).

Consistently arriving late or leaving early from TLX not only diminishes your own experience but disrupts the day for speakers and the rest of the class. If you are unwilling or unable to make arrangements so that you can attend the full TLX class day each month, we ask that you reconsider your application.

Selection for TLX is highly competitive so some students who wish to participate are not selected; therefore, it is our expectation that those who are chosen are fully committed to the program for the entire year.
