Washington County Teen Leadership Experience

Shaping the Next Generation of Leaders

The Washington County Teen Leadership Program consists of Juniors in high school from six local school districts (Lincoln, Prairie Grove, Farmington, West Fork, Elkins, and Greenland). The purpose of the Washington County Teen Leadership Experience is to allow students the opportunity to learn about the many services, resources, organizations, and businesses that make Northwest Arkansas unique.

Each month the students attend presentations, tour facilities, and interact with representatives from companies, which provide knowledge that will assist the student with their career path. We award one student from each district a $500.00 scholarship at graduation if they choose to further their education.

Curriculum

From September through April, participants step out of the classroom and into the community during the school day. Each month includes presentations, behind-the-scenes tours, and direct conversations with leaders across a wide range of industries and service areas. These experiences help students see how their interests, talents, and values can translate into meaningful involvement—both now and in the future.

  • Attendance & Participation

**PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SESSIONS TAKE PLACE BETWEEN 8:15 AM AND 2:15 PM on the third Wednesday of each month between September and April.

Attendance for the full class day each month is key to gaining the full experience of the WCTL program. Therefore, we ask that you make arrangements with coaches, employers, etc. to adjust their attendance for commitments that overlap with this schedule (e.g. changing practice or work schedules for WCTL days).

Consistently arriving late or leaving early from WCTL not only diminishes your own experience but disrupts the day for speakers and the rest of the class. If you are unable to make arrangements so that you can attend the full WCTL class day each month, we ask that you reconsider your application.

Selection for WCTL is highly competitive so some students who wish to participate are not selected; therefore, it is our expectation that those who are chosen are fully committed to the program for the entire year.
